Xiao-Yan Gong, PhD. received his Bachelor of Science and postgraduate education at Peking University. He then went on to obtain his Ph.D. in Mechanical Properties of Materials from the University of California at Santa Barbara.

Dr. Gong is an expert in the medical device industry with direct product design, evaluation and registration experience.  He advocated the use of structural computation in the early design phase to include predictive durability, advanced the knowledge of Nitinol fatigue and modernized the multi-axial fatigue safety computation technologies for the medical device industry.  He started his industry career working for Carbomedics Inc., a prosthesis heart valve manufacturer in Austin in June 1998. He then joined Nitinol Devices and Components, a Johnson and Johnson company in 2000.  In August 2006, he founded Medical Implant Mechanics LLC (MIM), a consulting firm that provides product design, evaluation and durability assessment.  In less than three years, MIM has helped its clients successfully launch more than a billion dollars of valued products. Today, in addition to design evaluation and advanced computation services, MIM also provides customized in-vitro testing services, Nitinol wire based medical device OEM services, and pulsatile pump series.

Dr. Gong started Suzhou InnoMed Medical Device Co. Ltd. in January 2013 with the aim to develop new medical devices for the world market from China.  Today, InnoMed has received product registrations from the US and China.  The company has a broad patent portfolio with a few new products under development.  Its Nitinol wire braided peripheral stent system received the Red Dot design award in 2016.  This product, along with a few others, is in the clinical studies phase.
